Not my kind of road trip

Looks like we are venturing to Gonzales, Tx tomorrow for Christy's funeral. These are not the kind of trips under these circumstances that I wanna make to see my future family....

On a completely different note, I did a cardio workout on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Go me. I was going to do another tonight but my calf muscle feels a little funny so I don't want to push it. Maybe I'll go run tomorrow morning before we leave.

P.S. I don't understand the Twitter fascination. I just don't get it. =\

Mucho Sadness

So, today started off as a really good day. I met Ryan for lunch, picked up Sentinel for the doggies and went Wal-martin' to get some new paint rollers and a drop cloth so Ryan and I could finish painting the accent wall upstairs.

Then I decided to log into myspace. I never log into that damn thing. As I was reading the updates, I noticed one in particular from Ryan's cousin. She wrote that she was sad and missing her cousin and RIP. Then I remember a conversation that Ryan and I had yesterday. His sister had called and said that someone had been killed in Austin......well I googled the name and it turned out that the cousin (not directly blood related to Ryan but related in the Mexican way) was the girl whose body they found by Decker Lake. Of course I called Ryan asap and told him....

I just couldn't believe it. I lit a candle and have been saying prayers all evening. Even during my run (YES I did a cardio workout tonight!!), I couldn't stop thinking about her. I only met her a few times at Christmas but it still makes me really sad. Turns out that my brother actually graduated with her and the word was spreading quickly among her graduating class.

I don't know how many of you are the praying type but if you could, please say a prayer to whichever deity you believe in that they catch whoever did this.

Ash Wednesday

[**EDIT**]
I forgot to mention that yesterday, Ryan and I took the dogs walking and I ran a few laps around our subdivisions's 'track' and then came home and jumped rope! Don't laugh. I love jumping rope. Anywhoo...hooray for already starting my cardio workouts!
[**End Edit**] =)

So today is Ash Wednesday. When I was younger, we would go to mass. Now, I don't really attend church to much. Don't get me wrong, I have my beliefs, it's just that, at this point in time, I don't always agree with the Catholic church. But that's neither here nor there.

I always give up something for Lent. In the past it's been chocolate, soda, fast food...stuff of that nature. This year, I think I'm going to go about it a little differently. Rather than giving something up, I'm going to promise to do something every week. In my case, as lame as it is, it's going to be promising myself that I will do a cardio workout at least 3 times a week. I talked to a friend who is getting married soon and she told me something that her priest said during a mass. He said that while Lent is for sacrificing something for 40 days, you should not give up something that will make you ill towards others. His example was that if you are a chocolate lover and give up chocolate for Lent, but in turn that makes you cranky and mean to those around you, then maybe you should think about giving something else up. While Lent is about sacrifice, it shouldn't make the people around you miserable. I dunno, that was just something that I found intriguing. But I still do no meat on Fridays. =) That's something I've always done also.

The weekends pros & cons

Pros

Our paper for the invitations came in the mail!!!! So now we can really get started on designing inserts and all that fun stuff. I know it's still early but it's not like I'm doing much else at home. Might as well entertain myself with wedding plans.
I also got my 'Game Over' hoodie in the mail. Here is a pic of Ryan's shirt. Mine is just a black hoodie with the same design on the back. I'm soo excited!

Ryan and I made a trip to Home Depot and I think we finally have the ideas we need to do to get the front and backyard put together. Well, enough to survive the dogs. haha.

Oh, I also went to my friends bridal shower on Saturday. It was so much fun to talk wedding with her. She's getting married in 2 weeks! Yikes! I can't wait for her wedding.

Cons

We'll do the cons in pictures....

Dakota
Plus a remote equals
Looks like we need to reorder a new remote for our NEW TV that is LESS THAN 3 months old. OMG what am I going to do with this fur baby???? And yes, thats about 1/2 an inch that has been taken off the top of that remote....and no pieces were found. Which means this fool ATE all the part she chewed off. *sigh*

Aye Dios..

My head is killing me. Stupid sinus headache. At least it stayed away until after my interview. But while I was at half price books, *WHAM*. Totally hit me. Must have been all the lights. I hightailed it home after that.

Of course, as soon as I walk in the door, Ratchet is barking up a storm. It seems that he was tattle tailing on Dakota. I walked into the living room and found her chewing on one of my old running shoes............aye Dios mio. I was livid. And she knew it. She ran into the kitchen to try and hide. I was so mad that I picked up the shoe and threw it in the kitchen (excessive, I know but headache + ruined shoes = not thinking straight). I just walked away from her, went upstairs and closed the door. So I think she knew that she did something she wasn't suppose to. Right now she's hiding outside somewhere digging up my yard.

Back to the interview. It went really well. The unfortunate part is that the company is being cautious in their hiring process b/c of the economy and stuff so they might end up hiring for a summer fulltime internship. I guess a job is a job and you hope that it turns into a full time hire. But he (the CEO!!) did tell me that he's going to talk to the project managers about maybe hiring me as a contract employee for some big projects they have in March. Sounds interesting....Does anyone have any experience doing contract work? Pros? Cons? Any advice would be awesome.

Holy Interview Batman!

I think my interview went well. And it also made me realize that I need to freshen up on my stats crap as well. Woohoo....linear regression anyone? Sample populations? No? I came back home and pulled out some old stats books. Yea, def need a refresher. Even if I don't get this job, I still need to fresh that stuff. It's kind of useless to have a stats degree and not remember a damn thing. I guess a trip to Half Price books is in order. I really do love that place.

I'm also expecting my first Avon order today. But UPS doesn't drop off in our neighborhood until 4:30pm so I got awhile to wait. I hate waiting.

Spurs play tonight!!!! Go Spurs Go! We are going to Ryan's cousins house tonight to watch it. Hopefully the game doesn't last to long (yea right). My interview tomorrow is at 10am.

Entertainment comes in many forms..

So today was movie watching day here at the house. I watched Harry Potter, Finding Nemo, The Gift and X-Men: The Last Stand. Yea, I'm a loser. But I was also sort of productive. After reading Kimmie's post and posting below about the Cupcake giveaway, I just had to make cupcakes. So I made yellow cupcakes because those are Ryan's favorite. I didn't put icing on all of them yet b/c we keep it kinda warm in the house and no one likes melty icing. I'm so proud of myself that I didn't scarf down 3 of them at one time!!!!!

In other news, the roses that Ryan got me for Valentine's Day are opening up and look soo gorgeous. I'm going to have to buy myself these more often. I love looking at them. I also ordered business cards for my little Avon independent sales rep thing. I got 250 business cards from vista print for only 5.97!!! I rock! Oh, and speaking of Vista Print, our SAVE THE DATES!!! got here! Woohoo! They turned out really great. I can't wait to mail them out. I'll probably post a real pic of them next week. I'm not sure who blog stalks me and I want to make sure people see them in their mailbox before on the bloggy. Get over it, I'm weird.

I've also discovered that I'm going through a phase with my Sonic burgers. Ryan and I go to Sonic on Tuesdays for 1/2 price burger night and lately, my thing has been to get a cheese burger, plain and dry. I'm not sure why. Maybe b/c it's simple? I dunno. But hook me up with a strawberry limeaide and I'm in heaven. =)

Check out this Giveaway!

mmmmmm This is my kind of giveaway! I looooooove cupcakes. Check out Kimmie's blog post about her giveaway at Living in Dallas and Loving It. Now it's time to go make cupcakes...

Pretty Things & the weekend

Ryan got me hot pink roses for Valentine's Day. This is why I love him. He gets me pink things. On Friday, we went on a date to Kenobi and totally grubbed. It was soooooo good. Highly recommended.
On Saturday, Ryan's cousin Victoria came over with her husband her 3 boys. I made them homemade chicken fettuccine alfredo. I know, I kick ass. And I also was not thinking about any sort of diet. But that's ok. One day of indulgence never hurt anyone.

On Sunday, Liliana, Linda and I made a somewhat useless trip to Lakeline mall. Those dresses at the Dress Shoppe weren't really what we were looking for. Looks like its back to square 1. I did get a pumpkin spice cupcake w/ creamcheese frosting from Be My Cupcake. mmmmmmmmm. I also got Ryan a Reeses cupcake which was heavenly as well.

On the job front, I HAVE AN INTERVIEW ON THURSDAY AND ONE ON FRIDAY! I hope one of these is 'the job' for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, back to SQL refreshing....

holy crap

I'm panicking. I went to the Natural Sciences career fair at UT last week and I talked to Company X. It was a long shot. They were looking for someone with a stats degree. Check. Someone who is outgoing. Check check. Someone who knows SQL....uhhhhhhhh slight check. Damn. So I had a nice conversation with the recruiter, he made notes on my resume, shook hands and off I went. I never thought that I would get contacted. Imagine my surprise when I check my email this afternoon and have an email from Recruiter Dude from Company X that said I have been selected for an interview and to fill out the attached survey and email it back w/in 2 DAYS! I'm freakin' out. I want this job but it's been so long since I've used my stats stuff that I feel like I'm going to flunk this interview. And I know SQL is easy to pick up but to do it under pressure????? OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG. Ok, freakout done for now. Off I go to do some refreshers.

Yesterday recap & Knottie GTG!

So yesterday was actually very productive. I booked our florist (Yes Jill! I ended up going with Rebekah, thanks for the rec!!), got my car reinspected and it totally passed. I even talked to the manager at Jiffy Lube about why it didn't pass originally (the 1st mechanic said it was an OH2 sensor, which i dont think exist, or an O2 sensor). When I told him this, he said that the information was def. not true and that he has a few newbs on his team and that if I ever have any other issues or questions to have the ppl call him. Awesome!

Next it was off to Michaels to get some glue to put together a mock up of our invitations. FYI, the Ad tech Permanent Bond Glue Runner SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HORRIBLE!!! The damn thing doesn't work properly. But I did use the Glue Dots brand Glue lines and they work extremely well. =)

The evening was then filled with laughter, giggling and drinks at Flying Saucer for the Austin Knottie GTG!!!! It was so nice to finally put a real name to a screen name. Hopefully I remember everyones name and face. If I don't, I still *heart* you! It was so great to just hang out with ppl who are doing wedding planning also. haha. All you ladies are awesome. If anyone who reads my blog and is a Knottie, wants to hang out, then holla at me. I'm not doing much right now. =)

Things to do today

I don't really feel like blogging. I don't really feel like doing anything. I'm in a rut.

-Meet with Rebekah and put down my flower deposit
-Get car inspected again (I swear, if my car doesn't pass, I am going to wreck shop. Just because I'm a girl doesn't mean I don't know more about my car than the idiot mechanic does!)
-Stop by Michaels to look at crystals for putting my initials on the bottom of my wedding shoes
-Order paper for invitations
-Watch more of the AVON training videos (Jen, you can email me at crowprincess at gmail dot com and I can give you more info)
-KNOTTIE GTG!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is really going to be the highlight of my day. Is that sad? I just need human interaction, and who better to interact with than other brides! =) And I'm sure by this evening, I will def. need a beer. haha

So many things

I have no idea where to start. I guess in order would be a good idea

Friday: I made a recipe that I saw in Rachael Ray's magazine and it was sooo good. You can find it here. I used chicken cutlets instead of turkey bc our HEB didn't have turkey cutlets. Oh, and you can probably just use a softened herb & chive cream cheese instead of Boursin. Almost the same thing. Ryan really like the recipe. So it's going into the recipe box for future use.

Saturday: We ventured to the Sunset Valley Farmers Market since we had to go down south anyways to take my parents our old wireless router. Let me tell you, that place was fun. We got some fresh bread, eggs, honey, broccoli, herbs and pecans. It was a small world because the pecans are actually from Waelder, Tx (where Ryan is from). We mentioned it to the guy selling the pecans and he started asking Ryan about the new school/gym and then went on to say that those kinda things are 'gonna make his taxes go up'. I guess it was a good idea that we didn't mention that Ryan was one of the driving forces to getting the new school bond passed....The rest of the day was us being lazy. I can't even remember what we did. It was that uneventful.

Sunday: I became an AVON lady. haha. I figured it will (hopefully) be a way to make some extra wedding spending money. If I like it, cool. If not, only $10 wasted. So if anyone is interested in seeing an AVON brochure, holla at me. I'll get you one lickity split!

Ryan also finished the save the dates!!!!! Woohoo! They have been ordered and will be here in 14 days. Hopefully sooner then that so we can get those suckers back into the mail. We are just going to put mailing labels on them. As much as I love everyone, I don't really feel like writing your name & addresses. I also figured out how much of our invitation supplies we will need so I'll probably place the order soon. YAY ME!

AAAAAAAAAAAND I ordered the bracelet that I posted about below. It was the last one. I win again!

**SHOUTOUT** to Amelia! She's going to send me a copy of her wedding timeline. Which I think is super awesome of her!

Friday, February 6, 2009

Oh yes it's Friday night...

And Ryan and I are at home. He suggested going to the movies but I made a big dinner and am still enjoying my fullness. I also don't want to be up to late tonight because I really want to go to the Sunset Valley Farmers Market tomorrow and I want to be there when it opens. Even though I'm from Austin, with it's all natural keep austin weird mantra (which btw, i hate the keep austin weird slogan but whatever), I've never been to a farmer's market. When the one in Pville is open during the spring/summer, it has really weird hours like 3-7pm on a Thursday. That didn't work for me. I like stuff on Saturdays. Anyways, I'm rambling. I really wanna go and check out what they have and see if it's something that I wanna go to on a regular basis. Ryan and I also need to drop off our extra wireless router at my parents house. They have been having problems with their Time Warner crap. I think it's actually a Time Warner issue but we'll test the new router just to be sure.

In other news, I went to 3 career fairs this week. Count 'em 3!!!! It was really exhausting. I went to the UT career fair and hopefully got a few decent leads. We shall see in the next few weeks. At one of the career fairs, I did meet a rep for Avon who seemed to pitch a pretty good part time side jobbie selling Avon. Has anyone ever done this? Is it worth it? I've actually only ever bought Mary Kay for myself because I've never met anyone that sold Avon. Input would be appreciated. =)

On the wedding front, I think that we are about to lock in our florist. Which means that all major vendors are dunzo!!!! My mom still hates the idea of us not having a DJ and keeps pushing that we just *have* to have one, even to the point where she said they will pay for it, which is not something I want them to do. I have 2 younger brothers, one who is currently going to ACC and hopefully soon to go to Texas State and my youngest brother is about to graduate in May. That's so many bills for them to worry about a DJ. *le sigh*

I think I want to buy THIS for my wedding bracelet. But I'm so indecisive that I probably won't buy jewelry for awhile.

Escape Artist

So it seems that Dakota has now become an escape artist. Ryan and I went to Autozone to see what the dealio was with my car (FYI it FAILED inspection because their computer wasn't able to read my car's computer...lame), then went to Sonic for 1/2 price burgers and then off to HEB. We also made a pitstop at walmart bc we needed to finally get those damn converter boxes. Well, when we got home, Ryan unlocked the garage door to disarm the alarm and this big black 40 lb dog hurls herself out through the door. Ryan and I must have given each other the most confused, stupidest looks on the planet, followed by "Wasn't she in her crate when we left???" So I came upstairs to investigate and I saw her crate laying on its side. I have NOOOOOOOOOOO idea how she escaped. This is one heffer of a crate. It's a black metal wire crate. All the latches were done on it except for 1. How she squeezed out of that I will never know. But she was more than happy with herself because she was jumping all around the room almost as if she was saying "Try and crate me now bitches!!" Oh my Dakota Bear.

Today's another day...

...that I shouldn't have gotten out of bed. Went to main event this morning to talk to manager people about being a front desk person for a new hotel. It felt like some weird speed dating twilight zone. I was not a fan. Went to lakeline after to check out The Dress Shoppe. They have some nice dresses for waaaaaaaay less than Alfred Angelo or Davids Bridal. Oh, and did I mention that my garage door clicker AND the one we installed next to the garage died??? Had to unhook the fuckin' thing again!!!!!!!! And then I couldnt get it to click back when I got home so looks like Ryan will have to use the front door. It's just one damn thing after another. This week needs to be over. OVER! I just made myself feel better with lots of carbs. I just made a whole bowl of pasta for myself. Just pasta with parmesan cheese. One of my personal comfort foods of choice. I need a hobby. Anyone got any fun hobbies they would like to share? I need ideas. I want to learn how to make jewelry. Anyone into this? Advice? I'm going to go hide under the covers now.

P.S. Thanks to the ppl that commented on my last post. I really appreciate it. It does help out alot. But sometimes I tend to let my sadness win. =(

ugh

Dear Employers,

I would really appreciate a phone call or email regarding the 239883745086394857943 applications that I have filled out and sent off into internet and fax land. I really hope you received them. I mean, could you please tell me what you are looking for exactly? I have a freakin' math statistics degree for the damn University of TEXAS!!!!!!!! Doesn't that mean something???? I'm suuuuuuure that I can work the front desk at a hotel or be an admin assistant. Why do you torment me each day with your lack of calls?? You have caused me to have another mini-emotional breakdown again. Like ugly cry type of thing. That is just not nice to do to a girl planning a wedding. But seriously, call please.

Sincerely,
The Princess.
