When is my wedding

Friday, January 30, 2009

It's Friday!

Wow, so today was pretty awesome. Met with another florist this morning and she was extremely helpful about me being more specific about my wedding floral 'vision'. Did you know that there are like 5 different types of hot pink roses? I thought hot pink was hot pink. Not in the rose world. So we'll see in a few days if she can beat The Glass Fountain.

After that adventure, it was off to DSW & Charming Charlies. DSW had some cute stuff but nothing that I wanted to spend money on. Well, at least not in terms of wedding shoes. FYI, if you are searching for red heels for any occasion, there were a bunch of cute ones. I saw like 3 pairs of running shoes that I wanted to get my hands on. But one needs to work out first in order to get new running shoes. Guess I gotta get on that. Then it was a short walk next door to Charming Charlies. (I was at that shopping center by Kohls off 290) Let me tell you, if you need gifts, cute clothes, cute jewelry or anything else in an assortment of colors, you have to go here. I was in heaven! They had so many fun things in all the colors I wanted. Pink, yellow, green, teal...it was amazing. I got some really great ideas for some gifts for the bridesmaids. It was awesome. I shall be going back very very soon. Then it was off to Which Wich for lunch.

After that fun time, I met my parents at the mall and helped my mom shop for a Mother of the Bride dress. Didn't really find much. A salesgirl at Nordstroms told my Mom that they had sold out of a lot of their floor length special occasion dresses because of the Inagural Balls. Damn, I didn't realize that so many of the ppl that went to those balls would get their dresses at Nordstroms. I wonder if any of the dresses I touched almost had the chance to go to Washington. haha. After that almost pointless trip (we didn't really find much), I came home, spent some time with my neighbors and then played with the dogs. Ryan and I also went to Red Lobster. I know its not the best place to eat seafood at but I don't care. Those cheddar biscuits are to die for. I think they put crack in them....just like girl scout cookies. You just cant get enough of them. haha. Now I'm chillin' for the rest of the night. I'm going to attempt to wake up early and take the dogs for a long walk....we'll see how many times I press snooze in the morning and see if I actually wake up....

Hello Pretty

I was doing one of my favorite things (internet window shopping) and came across this beauty. I *heart* Aldo. Now if only the shoes I want will hurry up and go on sale!! This purse would be so cute for summer. =) Please excuse the smallness of the image. I'm actually running out the door to meet with another florist and don't have time to work the magic to make it bigger.

Why me?

So I went with Ryan to drop him off this morning at work. We are meeting ppl at Flying Saucer tonight and it seems pointless to have 2 cars so he's going to hitch a ride with work peeps. Anyways, I stop to satisfy my breakfast/junk food craving (don't judge me, you do it to), come home, park the car and press the garage door button to close the garage door. Nothing. WTF. Get out of the car, turn off the house alarm, and press the button by the door. The f'in thing acts like it starts going down and then comes back up. OMG. Why does this shit happen when I'm just here with the dogs and I know nothing about garage doors???????????????????? So the POS is just sitting open right now. I moved my car out to the driveway because I'm going to need it later and if I can get this awesome door to close, I don't want to be messing with opening it. Why me? Whhhhhhhyyyyyyyy?????????? I'm going to go call my Daddy and see what he has to say about this mess.

Daisy Duke!

A dear doggy friend of ours was named Dog of the Day! If you read this after today (12/28), then just look at the Previous Dog link and look at her. Ryan took the first picture of her. She's so cute. I need to send in Dakota & Ratchet's pictures. Yay fur babies!

Flowers?

So I received the quote from Rebekah for the wedding flowers we discussed. It's a very good price, don't get me wrong. It's actually an AMAZING price...but I'm still on the fence about DIY'ing my flowers using some super real looking silk flowers from Hobby Lobby (pictures in previous post somewhere). I know if I DIY the BM's bouquets, it will save some moolah but I'm not sure how half real/half fake would look. Does anyone know how to DIY bouts & corsages with silk flowers? I figure that the wire & plastic stem would make it very difficult to pin a bout. I dunno.

I'm also attempting to design our wedding program right now. Yea, 8 months before the wedding. I'm a loser, I know. I just need something to occupy my time. Ryan installed a VM w/ Fedora on my lappy so I guess I could play around with that too.....I think I need to figure out a day to get out of the house and just do something...

P.S. Ryan still hasn't called. So I'm just going to assume that he's made it to work and got pulled into meetings. Aaaaaaaaaand there is still ice all over the grill and other random stuff in the backyard. yay

Wow

Ryan left this morning at about 7:10. He just called me (8:10am). It has taken him an hour to get from Pflugerville (I-35 & Grand Ave) to Mopac & Duval. Wow. Insanity. He should have just stayed home. I told him to just call and say that he was going to work from home today but he was all responsible and was calling people to get things going that were suppose to start at 8am. So responsible. It would have been better if he had just stayed home. Austin drivers are not always the brightest crayons in the box when it comes to ice being on the road. I don't even know how much ice was on the road. It was probably just stupidity. I hope he gets to work ok.

CHECK!

Booked our cake person!!!! mmmmmmmmmmmm cake. Mad props to Michelle at the Sweet Stuff. Thank you Crystal & Jillers!

Right now, I'm working on wrap labels for the invitations, finalizing guest list addresses, and figuring out how much of each invitation supply I need to order. YAY! Today is a happy day.

Weekend & feeling useless

So the weekend was pretty good, besides the lonely feeling when Ryan was gone. I got our Shutterfly book in the mail. I love it, it's so cute. Even my Mom thought it was nice. So that's a huge accomplishment. On Saturday, Ryan and I went to a going away party for a friend. She's doing a study abroad program in Paris for 4 months. I'm going to miss her. On Sunday, I had a fabulous sinus headache again. Awesome. I also had a mini breakdown. I think that this unemployment thing is totally getting to me. I know I gotta take the jobs I can get so I'm applying for everything but it makes me mad when I have a math stats degree and I am applying for front desk positions. Nothing against them, I gotta pay the bills but this whole recession/unemployment thing is really playing with my emotions. Don't get me wrong, I like having the time to plan this wedding but there is only so much wedding planning you can do this far out. It's hard to get motivated when all you do is wait. I know I should work out or learn a new skill but like I said, that's easier said than done. I wish these companies would call me back. I hate this waiting game. I just want a job.

Lonely Friday Night

So Ryan isn't here. He went to Waelder to see the first basketball game of the season in the BRAND NEW gym. This is a big deal for his little 1 flashing red light town. The Wildcats basketball team are the heart of Waelder. Think of the energy of a big Texas 5A football team & their fans i.e. Westlake or Lake Travis (I think they are 5A) and imagine that energy in a 1A basketball team & their supporters in a small town (less than 1000 ppl). So this was a milestone for them. And I'm sooooooo upset that I couldn't go. I stayed home with the fur babies b/c it didn't seem worth it to drop the dogs off at my parents house for 1 night. Then I talked to our neighbor and she told me that she would be more than happy to watch the babies if we ever needed to go out of town. Geez, I wish I had known. I really wanted to see Ryan's sister. Oh well, I'll just plan for a trip in a few weeks I guess. I need to ask her if she can cut my hair again. =) But I'm at the game in spirit. I'm sporting my Wildcat shirt tonight! Go Wildcats!

Our shutterfly photo guestbook got here today!!!! It's so perty. The brown 'leather' cover is perfect. I'm going to put some pink & green ribbon and it and call it a day. We only got 20 pages with various white space for people to sign. If more space is needed, then I guess it's good that shutterfly puts those random white pages at the end of the book. One thing checked off my list, a zillion more to go.

Thursday Summary

So my small sinus headache this morning turned into a real one about an hour after my previous post. Yuck. Took a Bayer and proceeded to nap. The dogs left me alone. I think they knew I wasn't feeling well. But I didn't get to take them for a walk, which makes me sad. I'm going to take them tomorrow though. I already promised them. =)

Jill & I ventured to Leander to see Rebekah at The Glass Fountain. Wow, let me tell you, she is one of the nicest people! And I think that she got what I wanted. Simple, classy flowers. Nothing over the top, nothing crazy. Hot pink roses for me, cream gerbers for the bridesmaids, cream spray roses for the groomsmen, and pink or cream spray roses for the other family members. So now I just have to wait for the quote and see if the price is right. I am still toying with the idea of DIY'ing the bridesmaids bouquets. These are a few pics from my first attempt:

I think it turned out ok for the first try. So we'll see. Depending on the quote Rebekah gives me, then I'll decide if I want to go the DIY route for this.

I am a little sad. Ryan is going out of town tomorrow night and I really wanna go but alas, I can't. I have to stay here with the fur babies. Well, I guess that I don't have to stay with the fur babies but it would be sooo much more work to drop them off at my parents house just for a night. So I'll be needing entertainment for tomorrow night if anyone wants to do anything. =)

Allergies = evil

So I never used to suffer from allergies. I've lived in Austin my ENTIRE life but starting in summer 2007, I got to join the ranks of the rest of the unlucky's and started getting allergies. Mine aren't the sneezing, water eyes, runny nose kind. It's the sinus headache that makes you want to hide in a dark room under the blankets kind. I feel the beginnings of a sinus headache right now, which in turn is making me not want to go outside to take the dogs for a walk like I promised them. I know I should. I just know I'll pay for it later and I've got plans tonight with Jill. And me with a headache is not good company.

Today's To-Do List

  • Call the church to get info about what they need from Ryan
  • Print out inspiration boards for the florist
  • Possibly get printer cartridges refilled if they run out printing the inspiration boards
  • Take dogs for a walk if I can get this headache to go away
  • Rinse/wash dishes <---sooo last on my list

This one's for you Jillers..

{Edit} Ryan and I finished the cupcakes last night. Now I'm sad because I really want one!

My photobook was last scanned in Doraville, GA. It's making its way here. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeek.

Look what I made:

Cake (duh)

Bridesmaids Bouquets (I like the flowers, not sure what color)

Bridal Bouquet Ideas:

Go Shutterfly!

Got an email from Shutterfly yesterday evening that our Photo guestbook has been shipped and should be here by January 23rd! I'm sooo excited! And I was very wedding productive yesterday. Made 2 cake tasting appointments for next week, made a florist appointment for this Thursday with the lovely Jillers (we are teaming up to meet with Rebekah @ the Glass Fountain) and I received my veil samples from veilshop.com. I wonder what I'm going to do the rest of today?

Where's my life jacket?

So our water heater proceeded to try to explode this afternoon. Joy! It all started with a slow leak and we got someone to come out and take a look at it. Thank goodness for home warranties! As the plumber dude was doing his thing, prepping the water heater to drain it, Ryan and I suddenly heard a *POP* followed by 'Oh No!' Awesome. Turns out our water heater had 2 faulty valves, which in turn caused water to come shooting out of it. Felt like I was going to need a row boat. So now we are at home, waiting for the plumber dude to come back with a brand NEW water heater but our water is shut off right now so I'm not to thrilled about that. Oh well, I'll get over it. I'm glad the plumber was here while the water heater went ballistic otherwise it would have been a sad sad day in our house. I just want our new water heater.

Honest!

Yay! The Honest Scrap Award has been presented to me by Millie! Go check our her blog, it's pretty entertaining. Her family has their own CD!! And she's getting married the same month I am....makes her that much cooler!

The rules:
1. Chose a minimum of 7 blogs that you find brilliant in content or design.
2. Show the 7 winners names and links on your blog, and leave them a comment informing them they were prized with "Honest Scrap." Well, there's no prize, but they can keep the nifty icon.
3. List at least 10 honest things about yourself

10 Honest Things...

One. I wash my jeans after wearing them probably 3 to 4 times, unless they get dirty or I go out or something. It's so hard for me to find jeans that fit that I need to make those suckers last..i.e. not fade and look crappy. I also hate doing loads of jeans because our washer gets unbalanced all the time and makes this obnoxiously loud banging sound. Drives me insane.

Two. I love sweets. To the point that I made a whole batch of Funfetti cupcakes w/ white sprinkle icing today just because. And then proceeded to eat frosting out of the container after frosting said cupcakes, then ate a cupcake also. Talk about sugar overload. Didn't turn over any packaging to look at the labels. I didn't care. I've been good for the past week. Sugar it is!

Three. This used to get me through the last few hours of my last job after dealing with fucktards who thought they were to good to be dealing with lowly support reps....It's not as good as the one Kate watches, but it's damn close.

Four. I can not live without L'Oreal Voluminous Eyeliner Mistake Proof Marker eyeliner. It is one of the most amazing things that I have discovered at HEB. I love liquid eyeliner and use it when I have the time but this little beauty has the liquid effect but soooo much easier to deal with!

Five. One of my favorite past times is going out with Dawn & Liliana and just making fun of people. It's a great thing. Don't lie, I know you all have done it too.

Six. I can not STAND stupid people. Stupid drivers, stupid people in the grocery store...ugh, they just frustrate me. Oh, and people who talk and have nothing to say. You know who I'm talking about. Like the kid who would sit in the front row of a big ass lecture hall in Welcome to College 101 and would just try to make the professor look bad by trying to sound smart....yea, that kid.

Seven. My email is always open. I'm always checking it. It's a totally compulsive thing now. Well, right now I'm using the being jobless thing as an excuse but it's always been like this. When the data plan got turned off on my phone and I couldn't get emails anymore, I was really really sad. Like not normal to be that sad over the loss of email on my phone. I feel like I'm missing an appendage when I leave my phone at home.

Eight. I'll eat a whole bag of Cheddar & Sour Cream Ruffles and be completely happy. No guilt. Just yummyness. Oh, and it would be the real ones, not the baked. They just don't do it for me.

Nine. I don't work out. Which is something I don't like to admit, especially when the wedding is coming up in 8 months. I should work out. I'm trying to get motivated. I know having time from not having a job should motivate me but it actually does the opposite. Makes me want to just sit on my ass and drown in daytime trash tv.

Ten. To go along with Nine, I am consciously trying to be better with portion control and what I eat. Which is a HUGE milestone for me and a huge honesty also. I figured it's a good way to start. I don't care if it's lame but the book 'French Women Don't Get Fat' actually helped me out alot. It was more about the state of mind rather than the 'diet'. Who knows, maybe I'll be my old svelt pre-freshman 15 (or 20) self by the wedding. Guess I need to get my ass out to run...when it gets warmer. =)

Now, I present this award to.....

Linda @ Curious Notions
Vicki @ Vicki Smalls

Ugh

I don't mean to be a slight bridezilla but seriously? Why do vendors not call/email back after I have contacted them?? By phone & email? I understand they are busy helping other lovely people but I'm on a timeline here! I want to have my crap checked off my list. I really don't feel like adding receipts to my emails. Ok, rant over. I swear. =) This is the first frustration that I've had with this wedding planning and I'm not liking it. I want everything to be smooth sailing.

Wedding on the Brain

The past few weeks have been a nonstop wedding thought. Researching vendors, wedding day hair/makeup ppl, jewelry, veils...you name it, I researched it. Luckily, I can say with mucho confidence that I believe we have our linen rental company taken care of. I just need to holla at her tomorrow to fix a minor mistake on our quote and let her know that I'm sending in a deposit. YAY!

We also did a cake tasting with Amazing Cakes of Austin (i.e. Cakes by Yvette) and let me tell you...YUM-O. I am a die hard cake lover so everything has to be delish. When she first showed us the cake, it was covered in fondant. Points lost. Can't stand fondant. But I tried it anyways. OMG! AMAZING! Points regained. We tried a white cake with 2 layers of rasberry current filling and 1 layer of buttercream which then was frosted in buttercream and covered with white swiss chocolate fondant. And she 'saw' our vision for our cake. I would have loved to book her at that moment but at 3.50/slice, I definetly wanted to check out other options. We's on a budget here.

I think Ryan and I are closer to deciding on our centerpieces. Finally. I didn't realize this would be such a hard decision. And we bought the boxes for me to make the big ol' cardbox. I just need to find wrapping paper or fabric that I like so I can decorate it. Ryan also spray painted the buckets we found at an after Christmas sale that will be used for beer/water (think tin oval beer buckets but these are plastic). He spray painted them a dark brown w/ glitter color and it looks really good. Pictures to come.

Oh! We got our engagements dvd!!!!!!!!!! Which means.... SAVE THE DATES & WEDDING WEBSITE will be done next!!!!! Ok, enough exclamation marks for 1 night...or until I think of something else I forgot.

Dilemma

Old company called again asking if I could come back. My option are dwindling. I have no idea what to do. Do I value my sanity or become materialistic and do it for the money? I have a wedding to plan and bills to pay. OMG I don't know. Must think. Any input would be fantastic.

Past, Present, Future

So I holla'ed at a few old friends last night from when I first started college. Ooooh good ol' Kinsolving Dorm. And I started thinking about how in the world we lost touch to begin with. One girl and I used to be inseparable. We lived down the hall from each other, were in APO together etc etc. We were still pretty close after our 2nd year of college and then after that, I don't even know what happened. Thinking back, it makes me kinda sad. She had been there through the insanity that was my life before Ryan and she was there for the joy when Ryan and I finally became an item. How does that happen? I guess maybe I was wrapped up in my own life to really notice the friendships that were fading. Now she's married and had a beautiful wedding from the Facebook pics I saw. Good for her. Congrats girl! As much as I hate facebook sometimes, at least it's good for something every once in awhile.

This morning I read Kate's Bride Wars post and I started thinking about my own wedding. I am not really sure it falls into a category. Yes, it needs to be practical/budget friendly/DIY/gorgeous but I wouldn't squarly put it in one of those. Can we hodge-podge a new category? =) Haha. What shall I call it. While it is not possible for me to have the designer dress and gorgeous 3 ft tall centerpieces (and more power to those of you that do, I love all that), I do love my own picks for my wedding. =) Anyways, I'm starting to realize even though I can't have everything I want, I know it will still be amazing and that our friends/family are going to be there for US and not to nit-pick every little thing. That's my job. =) And speaking of wedding, our engagement pics are uploaded and the DVD is on it's way. Which means Save The Dates are next to be checked off! What What!

That is all....for now...

Shoes!

Woohoo! My reception shoes just got shipped! Go Amazon go! That is all.

Yes!

The wonderful Jillers posted this on her blog and I was lucky enough to be tagged. Sorry that I didn't see it until now Jill. I was busy yelling at the tv yesterday during the UT game. haha. Just FYI, today has been pretty productive so far. Ordered HOT PINK reception shoes! I'm so awesome. Printed out templates for invitation inserts. Forwarded engagement picture view info to bridal party and parents. What else.....

Oh yea, yesterday I mailed out the 2nd installment of the Bridesmaid Newsletter, finally took down most of the Christmas stuff (shut up, I've been lazy), made an appointment with the linen rental place I want to use, bought vases from a fellow Knottie....uhhhh that's all I can think of.

2009!

OMGosh I am loving 2009 so far! I'm getting married this year. NOTHING can bring me down. =) Now if you will excuse me, it's time to dance around the room.
